OONA RIVER RESOURCES ASSOCIATION

Environmental Stewardship
Enhancing the local coho population is our greatest goal. Operating in a community with a long history of fishing, locals are aware of the precarious salmon populations. Many residents are regular volunteers at our facility, helping catch brood stock, doing stock assessment, maintaining trails necessary for stream stewardship, and other activities. We are committed to promoting the health and well-being of our oceans and the communities that depend on them.
Youth Involvement
Our organization prioritizes involving youth in our activities and programs. We bring on Summer Students aged 15 to 30 each year who gain valuable skills while supporting our daily operations. Additionally, we regularly host a college field trip focused on educating students about the coastal environment. By engaging and educating young people, we hope to increase their awareness and appreciation for natural resources and conservation efforts.
Education
ORRA focuses on educating the public about waterways through a variety of activities. Our yearly River's Day celebration features a touch tank exhibiting the local habitat and organisms. Additionally, we offer guided river walks upon request for those interested in learning more about the environment. Our aim is to provide awareness about our waterways and promote their conservation.
